In early 2003, we were asked by the Roanoke Valley
Juvenile Detention Center
to assist them in trying to solve some operational challenges and to help them begin the
move to a paperless work
environment. HIPAA’s security regulations had just taken effect and there were other issues
related to security that they
wanted to have addressed. In addition, they were looking for a way to minimize or eliminate the
redundancy of their paper
form-based intake and detention processes.
